About the School

General

What is Savoy Swing Italy? +

We are a dance school based in Rome specialising in Lindy Hop and jazz dance, rooted in the authentic African-American swing tradition of the 1920s–40s. Our mission is to share the joy, culture, and community of swing dance with everyone.

What dance styles do you teach? +

We teach Lindy Hop (the original swing dance), solo jazz, and Charleston. We also host occasional workshops in Blues, Balboa, and other swing-era dances, as well as visits from international guest instructors.

Where are your classes held? +

We teach at several locations in Rome including Via dei Sabelli 88C, Circus Maximus, and Colosseo. The specific venue for each class is listed in the course description when you register.

Can I sign up on my own for partner dancing? +

Yes. If you sign up as a couple you are guaranteed immediate access to the classes; with a solo registration we give you access to a course as soon as we find a partner for you. Also, dance roles are not necessarily man-woman — you can swap roles or dance with a friend of the same gender.

Classes & Levels

Classes & Levels

I'm a complete beginner — can I join? +

Absolutely. We run beginner courses throughout the year that assume zero prior dance experience. Our instructors are patient, experienced, and genuinely love introducing new people to swing. There is no such thing as starting too late.

How do I know which level is right for me? +

If you have some previous experience, email us or come to a free trial class and our instructors will help you find the right level. We have beginner, intermediate, and advanced tracks. When in doubt, start at beginner — it never hurts to reinforce the fundamentals.

Can I try a class before committing? +

Yes — we offer a free trial class for new students. Simply get in touch or register online and attend your first session with no obligation. We want you to feel confident and excited before you commit.

What happens if I miss a class? +

We do not offer make-up sessions for missed classes, but in some courses instructors may share notes or a brief summary. If you miss several sessions due to illness or an emergency, please contact us and we will do our best to find a solution.

What should I wear? +

We recommend comfortable clothes and flat shoes with a smooth leather or rubber sole (trainers are fine too). Clean shoes are required for indoor classes.

How long are the classes? +

Classes last one hour and courses run weekly.

Can I start a course even if I have no other dance experience? +

Yes — our beginner courses are taught in a way that lets absolutely everyone dance!

If I already dance other disciplines, which course suits me best? +

We always recommend building solid foundations, so start from the beginning. For professional dancers and athletes we can plan a path of private lessons together to move at a faster pace.

Booking & Payments

Booking & Payments

How do I register for a class? +

Register through our website or by emailing us directly. Once registered you will receive a confirmation email with all the details you need, including venue, schedule, and payment instructions.

What payment methods do you accept? +

We accept bank transfer (bonifico bancario) and cash. Italian-compliant fiscal receipts (ricevute fiscali) are issued for all payments, and invoices are available on request.

What is your refund policy? +

If you cancel more than 7 days before a course starts, we offer a full refund. Within 7 days of the start date, we offer a credit towards a future course. Once a course has begun, we do not offer refunds for individually missed sessions.

Are there any discounts? +

Yes — the school offers discounts for students and under-30s, as well as bundles for those attending more than one course.

Events & Social Dancing

Events & Social Dancing

Can I dance outside of the classes too? +

Yes — stepping into the world of swing also means meeting lots of new people. The school organises all kinds of events throughout the year, both in Rome and beyond.

Do you organise social dance events? +

Yes! We host regular social dances (jam sessions), seasonal parties, and special events throughout the year. These are open to our students and the wider Italian swing community alike. Check our Events page for the latest schedule.

What should I wear to class? +

Wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in. For shoes, smooth soles work best — leather, suede, or specialised swing dance shoes. Avoid rubber soles, which grip the floor and can cause knee strain. Many students invest in proper dance shoes after a few sessions.

Can I attend social events without being a student? +

Yes! Our social events are open to everyone who loves to dance. A small entry fee usually applies. You do not need to be enrolled in any class to come and enjoy the music and the floor.

Do you collaborate with other swing schools or festivals? +

Very much so. We are an active part of the Italian and European swing dance community. We regularly invite international guest instructors, collaborate with other schools, and promote major swing festivals for those who want to take their dancing further.

Health, Safety & Data

Health, Safety & Your Data

Do I need to be physically fit to dance? +

Not at all. Swing dance is genuinely for all bodies, ages, and fitness levels. Classes are structured to be accessible and adaptable. If you have a specific health condition or physical limitation, let your instructor know beforehand and they will make sure you are looked after safely.

What safety measures are in place in class? +

Our instructors are trained in safe movement and injury prevention. Every participant agrees to our Code of Conduct, which includes clear expectations around consent, physical contact, and mutual respect. Partner rotation is standard, and you always have the right to decline a dance.

How is my personal data protected? +

We process your data in full compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Italian privacy law. You can read our full Privacy Policy for details. You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time by emailing privacy@savoyswing.it.

How do I update or delete my account? +

Log in and visit your profile page to update your personal information at any time. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, email privacy@savoyswing.it. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm once complete.
